A white steamship in the distance catches the sunlight in this thoroughly modernist marine landscape using other elements in New York City's East River-including the hulls of other ships and their respective shadows-to frame it all.
Taken by American pictorial photographer Karl Struss, (1886-1981) this vintage Japan tissue, hand-pulled photogravure was included with Camera Work XXXVIII and published in 1912. The work is included along with its' native sheet of Enfield watermarked laid paper.
Condition: Excellent. Work attached at upper and lower corners on left margin of plate; a bump to lower support margin; slight discoloration of adhesive in corners used to glue tissue gravure to support. (please email if you require additional photos)
